Introducing Rachel Swann, COO at dmg events energy! In this interview Rachel shares her passion for supporting women in the workplace, her career to date and the power of a mentor.
Please outline the journey you have taken to get to this point in your career:
I discovered a passion for working in events when I joined UBM (now Informa Markets) in a Commercial finance role as a new qualified Chartered Accountant in 2003.
During my career I have worked in various senior Finance roles within start-up, private equity and blue-chip Media Companies in a number of sectors including Design, Healthcare, Aviation & Energy. In 2015 I joined dmg events energy. In my role as COO, I manage the HR and Finance teams and work closely with the President and VP’s of the business to manage and grow an international portfolio of events.
Aside from your career, what makes you, you?
I am passionate about giving back to industry and supporting women through their career journey. As well as getting involved from the start in Potentia, I am the Vice Chair of the Association of Event Organisers and a board member of Women in Exhibitions.
I am also a mother of a 4 year boy who loves dinosaurs!
What key things do your think would have supported you / made it smoother when you were starting out on your career?
I would have valued the opportunity to have had a mentor from outside of my company at the beginning of my career. The opportunity to have confidential one on one time with a senior figure who can give you the benefit of their career experience is invaluable.
Why Potentia?
I am firmly committed to helping to empower women in the workplace and to develop the next generation of leaders.
